Versatility in Laser Design

One of the most important things to me as a laser subscription designer is that my files are versatile. I never want my members to see something and feel like they aren't able to use it with their niche/work style.

This month, the centerpiece of our theme is our mosaic designs themed around birth flowers. I'm a huge fan of this style because it allows for using up scraps and creating some truly incredible works of art. However, I know not everyone shares this love for intricate work.

While I create for the love of art, I know many of you need quick, profitable projects to pay the bills.

Here's a few alternate ways to use our mosaic designs that are fast, user-friendly, and evergreen.

LINE ART

Love the line art, but not the colorful style? Here's the perfect option for you: layered line art. Simply cut the outline layer from a material of your choice, with 3M or comparable adhesive on the back, and layer on an offset backer. I paired pre-finished woods from Craft Closet with their COLORboard Solids in White - and it turned out absolutely stunning (don't forget code DOODLES for 10% off).

The uses for these are expansive. Here's just a few ideas:

  1. Create a large-scale version of a baby's birth flower as the main centerpiece in nursery decor.

  2. Create flowers for each one of the family members and hang them in a row above a door frame or in a kitchen. It's a subtle way to represent every family member while still staying in line with the client's decor.

  3. When I was young, we had 3D letters hanging in our bedrooms spelling our names. You could match the color scheme and place a flower at the end of a 3D name, or in between names if you are decorating for twins!

  4. Market the art as "wedding month" flowers instead of just birth flowers - perfect for gifting to newly engaged couples, wedding presents, anniversary gifts, and more.

  5. Add a larger offset with lots of blank space around the flowers and use it as a guest book for signing! Think baby showers, engagement parties, weddings, and more.

  6. If you make piggy banks, you can make some more elegant versions using the line art as the design detail

  7. Add a bar at the bottom and some macrame cord and make some bow hangers - imagine how cute for a little girl's room!

ENGRAVING EMBELLISHMENTS

Another MAJOR use for these designs is as engraving embellishments. The cool thing about our outline/mosaic files is that the main element is a solid, closed shape. What's that mean for laser use? It can easily be turned into a fill design, which works for engraving on just about any surface.

Some possibilities:

  1. Journals or notebook covers - consider the designs by themselves, or adding a knockout with a name or monogram!

  2. Cutting or serving boards - consider making a last name version with a wedding month as a gift for an engagement, wedding, or home purchase

  3. Luggage tags - make your bags easily recognizable with a simple, classic engraved look

  4. Card keepers - make a "monogram" using recipient's initials, first name, or last name - engrave on pre-finished wood for a quick, easy, elegant keeper for all the associated cards (baby shower, wedding, engagement, graduation, etc.)

  5. Tumblers - the line art by itself is already gorgeous, but you can pair with a name or monogram or anything else should you think it needs it

These are just a handful of ideas of what you can do with these designs based on what I could think up in just a few minutes. There are truly so many possibilities - what would YOU use them for??
